The basic morality of theodicy is oft disputed. Classical theodicists defend the pursuit an intellectual solution to problem evil while anti-theodicists and practical argue that this distracts efforts from alleviating pain people suffer. In article, I draw on psychological studies show beliefs about God change how resilient are in their experience pain. light research, suggest actually a part response evil. However, must be undertaken by person who has suffered evil, not theodicist behalf. instead take up role coach or guide process making sense evil—this what call compassionate theodicy. finish with example resource attempts theodicy, showing links between theory practice.
